Defunct pipeline mended; villagers get water

A day after a news story on lapses in timely responding to a drinking water crisis in Arda village in Tarbha block was published in The Pioneer, the district administration seriously took note of it.

Sub-Collector Ipsita Priyadarsini Mishra intervened in the matter and directed the Executive Engineer, RWSS, Subarnapur to look into the issue and resolve it with immediate effect. And, the problem was sorted out with the locals of Arda village getting drinking water on Wednesday.

Notably, the drinking water project in Arda village of Tarbha block was out of order in the last few days. Locals alleged that the contractor and the RWSS officials were in nexus as the drinking water project was constructed in a substandard manner.

The villagers demanded strong action against the contractor and RWSS officials for botching up the project work which went defunct just within a few days of its commissioning. The guidelines say the contractor is supposed to repair and maintain a drinking water project for five years for any defects. However, in this case, despite repeated pleas of the locals, the department was not responding.
