A new play titled Deepa Sekha by Dr Bijaya Kumar Satapathy is being staged by State-level cultural organisation Sudha at different Rangamanchas, Mandaps and schools in Puri district.
The play, directed by Dr Charubala Das, aims at promoting education among children and development and empowerment of youths, particularly from economically and socially backward sections of society. In the play, Dr Sathapathy has illustrated that people should not send children to work as servants or labourers; rather they should help them develop their extraordinary skills.
The play portrays the conservative and narrow-minded people having an utilitarian attitude and are responsible for child labour in Odisha. It demonstrates the need of education as an antidote to superstitions and a protection against exploitation.
