After recovering a decomposed carcass of a bear from forest, the Forest Department registered a case and an investigation is on to nab the accused involved in the animal’s killing, said Titilagarh Ranger JN Nanda.
Nanda informed that on Tuesday a sloth bear appeared on the outskirts of a house in Titilagarh and on being informed, the Forest and the police officials rushed to spot. However, by around 4pm, the bear while being chased away attacked and injured two persons on the way.
The next day, the animal on the run again injured two others in Bagdore village who were shifted to hospital.
The villagers told the Forest and police officials that the bear had gone into the jungle and so they stopped the chasing operation but subsequently a video went viral in social media where it is seen people killing the bear, said Nanda. He added that a manhunt is on to nab main culprit Arjun.
It is alleged that people killed the animal out of anger and its skin and nail were missing.
“We recovered the decomposed carcass of the bear from forest which was stinking and details would be known after the postmortem,” informed Nanda.
Meanwhile, it is demanded that steps should be taken to preserve the habit of the bear to avoid the man- animal conflict and at the same time, the Forest Department should also sensitise the people not to venture into forest during these months and also track the movement of the bears properly.
