Declare whole Odisha drought-hit: AIKS

The Akhil Bharat Krushak Sabha (AIKS) on Wednesday has decided to stage a State-wide agitation from November 3 to 10, protesting the State Government’s failure in tackling drought situation, farmer suicides and price hike of essential commodities.

AIKS State unit president Ashis Kanungo told reporters here that the party activists would stage demonstration in front of all the tehsils, blocks and Collectorates to press their demand for immediate Government measures for farmers’ welfare and inclusion of all the citizens under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), except taxpayers.

He said since 70 per cent agriculture land has been affected due to scanty rainfall, the Government should declare the State as drought affected.

Kanungo demanded Rs 10 lakh compensation to the kin of the deceased farmers and Rs 25,000 assistance for crop less per acre of land among others.
