The CPI State Council on Thursday urged the party comrades to make the November 13 agitation call given by left parties including the CPI(M) and Forward Bloc in Bhubaneswar a success.

The left parties are demanding declaration of the situation arising out of the Phailin and subsequent flash floods as a national calamity, besides formation of all-party committees at the block level for proper distribution of relief materials.

“We will organsie agitations on November 7 at the block level to press our demands,” said CPI State secretary Dibakar Nayak.

“The devastation caused by the Phailin and subsequent flash floods is extensive. About 1.35 crore people in 18 districts have been affected while crops in more than 17 lakh hectares of land have been damaged,” said Nayak.

The State Council also passed resolutions decrying the relief loot incident in the Cuttack Municipal Corporation and demanded arrest of the Mayor, corporators and other responsible officers under the ESMA.

The party too urged the State Election Commission to defer the proposed elections to the 22 urban local bodies in western Odisha to December in view of the cyclone and flash floods.
