A young farmer of J Raiboga village under the Bhasma police limits in Sundargarh district, who had allegedly attempted to commit suicide under the burden of loans, died while undergoing treatment at the VIMSAR, Burla on Friday.
Pradip Mandari’s family has alleged that he had consumed poison to end his life after being unable to repay his loans he had taken for farming. Mandari had availed loans and purchased a Tata Magic vehicle and power tiller ten months ago.
Owing to losses incurred at farming, Mandari was unable to pay his instalments of the loan for the last four months and was under terrible mental pressure, according to his family members.
It was on September 29 that the organisation that had provided the loan had visited Mandari’s house and warned that they would seize the vehicles if he failed to repay the loan.
Next day, Mandari went to his fields to manure his crops. later, he was found lying unconscious in the field by other villagers. He was first taken to the District Headquarters Hospital at Sundargarh but later shifted to the VIMSAR as his condition worsened.
