A debt-ridden man committed suicide at his in-laws’ house at Balianta on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Sanatan Jena (40), a resident of Nua Sahi under the Balianta police limits. He ended his life by consuming pesticide allegedly over loan burden.
According to reports, Jena was working as a daily labourer. He was deeply in debt. Even her wife Nayana was a bank defaulter. She was not able to repay the loan amount of Rs 41,000 that she had borrowed from a bank when she was the president of a women’s outfit. Due to non-repayment of both bank and personal loans, the couple was facing threat from various quarters.
Jena took then extreme step losing his mental stability, his wife said. Police recovered the body and sent it for postmortem.
