The 135th birth anniversary of world’s first deaf-blind educationist and writer Helen Keller was observed by the Nehru Seva Sangh (NSS)  on Saturday.Though deaf-blind people have a large share in the country’s disability category, they are yet to be recognised as disabled under the PWD Act. However, the New PWD Act-2014, which is pending in Parliament, has enlisted deaf-blind people under its fold, said noted social worker Omprakash Agrawal.

He further said Keller dedicated her life to improve the conditions of deaf-blind people around the world by advocating in more than 25 countries. NSS Secretary Sarojini Dash presided over the event. Among others, Sangh members ladukeswar Sahu, Kabita Kumari Devi and Pradeep Das were present.
