A dead woman teacher of the district here recently got a promotion in the School and Mass Education (SME) department.
If sources are to be believed, Sabita Kumari Rout, who was a teacher of Jajanga UP School and died a year back, was recently promoted by the SME department. Intellectual masses alleged that due to negligence of the department, the error was committed. According to headmistress of the Jajanga UP School Annapurna Choudhury, Rout, who died in November, 2013, was promoted from level -5 to level-4 teacher. Her name was in the teacher promotion notification list.
The SME department earlier submitted a list of 192 level-5 teachers before the Director for promoting them. As a result, on November 6, 2013, the Director had approved 187 level-5 teachers to level-4 teachers. But though the promotion of teachers from level-5 to level-4 was made, but due to some unknown reasons it was delayed.
As a result, the district education department horridly served letters to the promoted 187 teachers, without verifying if any one among them was dead, stated official sources.
According to Choudhury, the senior officials of the SME department were aware of Rout’s death.
When contacted, Block Education Officer of Kendrapara Prasant Kumar Mohanty admitted that it was a mistake.
The department is going to verify the list once again, he said.
