De-addiction centre counsellor murder: two arrested

Published on:

Four days after the murder of the de-addiction centre Prayas’s counsellor Sumit Behera, the Commissionerate Police have arrested two inmates of the centre.

The Mancheswar police on Friday night arrested Jyoti and Saroj from Cuttack and Baleswar districts, respectively. They were forwarded to court on Saturday.  Meanwhile, suspecting involvement of at least six persons in the crime, at least three police teams are continuing raids at different suspicious locations.

A group of addicts allegedly murdered the counsellor on December 29 night for not allowing them to have a party outside.

Behera, who had been working as caretaker and counsellor at the centre for the last three years, was tied up and battered mercilessly before being strangulated. Following the incidents 36 inmates fled from the centre. Police suspected that the escape plan was hatched by 12 inmates, who had recently been admitted at the centre.
