Drug inspectors of the Directorate of Drugs Control Administration (DDCA) along with the city police on Monday raided a medicine stockist godown here at Bidanasi on allegations that the distributor was dealing with fake vaccines of a reputed multinational company.
The DDCA sleuths however, could not found any material evidence to support the allegations. “We have nonetheless, seized some documentary evidence from the godown which prima facie establishes a mismatch between the quantum of supply and sale of the vaccine in the State,” said a drug inspector, who was a member of the raid party. This is for the second time the DDCA sleuths have raided the godown in last four months. On both the occasions the raid party has failed to lay their hands on any substantial material evidence to prove that the fake vaccine was in circulation in the State.
According to a highly-placed source, a Baleswar-based doctor way back in March this year had complained of circulation of the fake vaccine. The vaccine for children is a preventive against at least five diseases.
Surprisingly, the paediatrician, instead of bringing this to the notice of the Baleswar drug inspector, verbally complained this to the Drugs Controller in Bhubaneswar without keeping any sample of the alleged fake vaccine in support of his complaint.
