Revenue Minister Maheswar Mohanty on Tuesday said that the water of river Daya on the outskirts of the Capital city Bhubaneswar has become polluted and is neither fit for drinking nor for farming purpose.
He said that the water from the Gangua drain is being released to the river which has resulted in the pollution of the age-old water body.
A review meeting over the matter was held on Tuesday where it was stated that six sewage treatment plants are being set up at a total cost of Rs 8 crore. While work for two sewage treatment plants has been completed, those of the other four would be completed within the next two years.
Another meeting is scheduled to be held shortly to decide the number of houses required to be evicted for the projects.
It was also directed to examine the purity level of the waters of rivers Bhargavi, luna and Ratnachira.
