Day of Service: Orphans get message of mother's love

Youths in the twin city celebrated the International Day of Service by bringing smiles in orphanages and old age homes. This year the theme was celebrating mother’s love as it coincided with the International Mother’s Day. Volunteers spread the message of love among the children who don’t have mother and also among the mothers who don’t have children.

The day started with 28 children coming from different brick kilns of Bhubaneswar having fun with storytelling sessions, art and craft, games and reading picture books at Bakul library Bhubaneswar. It was facilitated by Aide-et-Action, an organisation which advocate for these kids.

“For me life was confined to my college campus and movies. For the first time I was experiencing a different person within me,” said Sital Begum Manisha Mishra, an under graduate student.

Similarly, it was an overwhelming experience for Kamal Chatar, who coordinated a team of 20 volunteers at Pune and celebrated the joy of love at Asha Kiran, a nearby orphanage.

The day has been celebrated by volunteers of Bakul across globe to exhibit the power of volunteerism since 2011. “We want to involve and inculcate the spirit of volunteerism amongst young mass and this day is designed to give them all a platform to serve and do service,” said Bakul Foundation founder Sujit Mahapatra.
