The Regional Resource and Training Centre (RRTC) in association with the National Resources Centre for Women Development (NRCWD) organised an awareness walkathon rally and public awareness meeting on the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons here on Friday.
State Assembly Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro inaugurating the meeting urged everyone to take care of the interest of the elderly people. He also said that the elderly persons should keep them active.
Padma Shri Dr Prafulla Kumar Jena advised elderly persons to consult doctors at regular intervals, remain active and do their daily chores themselves.
Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment Additional Secretary Upma Srivastava said the Central Government would adopt a policy for the older persons soon. NISD Deputy Director Dr HC Sridhar Ranga Reddy spoke about different schemes of the Government for senior citizens. Among others, NRCWD Secretary Sukanta Kumar Parida and senior journalist Nageshwar Patnaik were present.
