Day after blast, Minister visits school, orders probe

More than 24 hours after the bomb explosion inside a classroom of Ayatpur Government High School near here on Monday, School and Mass Education Minister Rabi Narayan Nanda on Tuesday visited the school and met the injured students.

At least 20 students of the school were injured when a crude bomb, apparently brought by a Class IX student, went off. The Minister met the injured students after they were discharged from the hospital.

Nanda informed that he has directed his department's Secretary to submit a report on the incident while the Director of the department has been asked to conduct an inquiry and submit report within seven days.

It may be mentioned that the Government on Monday had already ordered a departmental inquiry into the incident in which the Cuttack District Inspector of Schools was asked to probe and submit a report. Meanwhile, the Cuttack Commissionerate police after registering a case on it have begun investigations since Monday with the help of a police scientific team.

Although the police are yet to ascertain as to which student brought the bomb into the class and for what purpose, the police confirmed that the explosive was a low-intensity one. Meanwhile, frightened over the Monday's incident, many students did not turn up in the school on Tuesday and all classes recorded thin attendances. The guardians of the students and locals here allege that the school authorities are responsible for the current lawlessness in the school.

Students of a particular village in the locality are known to be creating trouble in the school and a student of this area was earlier found to be carrying bombs and crackers to the school. He was, however, let up by school authorities without informing  police, allege locals.
