For the first time, students of the DAV Public School Chandrasekharpur here organised a three-day DAV Model United Nations that concluded on Sunday.

The event was held to provide a platform to youths of schools and colleges to set a benchmark of high quality debating, diplomacy combined with global cause commitment and to leave a mark on the world communities that “work for universal fraternity, change and peace”.

The conference proved as the ground for the beginning of a sustainable campaign for the rights of children affected by the ban on child labourers (Child labour, Prohibition & Regulation Act of 1986).

Governor Dr SC Jamir as the chief guest observed, “Education and true learning actually happens beyond the four walls of classrooms, and practising it in your day-to-day lives would surely enrich and revitalise you in the path of wisdom. Your idealism and energy are fuel for social change.”

Around 250 students from different schools and colleges of Odisha and neighbouring States participated in the process of discourses as representatives of different countries like KIET MUN (Pakistan), Afghan MUN and leadership partner Young leaders Consortium (UNSECO-affiliated).

A formal resolution was adopted to donate generously to the International Children Workers’ Career Fund meant for all-round development of the Global Child labourers.

MPs Bhartruhari Mahtab and Pinaki Misra joined as guests of honour. SMC Chairman MM Panda gave the welcome address while Principal-cum-Regional Director Dr KC Satapathy briefed about the purpose of organising the event. Secretary General of DAVCSP MUN Naimisha presented the Conference Report and coordinator of the host school Indira Bhattacharya proposed a vote of thanks.
