Published on:

A debate on ‘Skill development is the key to emerge as a powerful nation’, held at the DAV School of Business Management here on Wednesday, raised some important points on whether it is skill development or subject knowledge that is important for a country to emerge as a powerful nation.

The debaters pointed out that skill building and education move in a parallel direction towards moulding an individual.

Prof Gopa Ranjan Mishra stated that education is a common platform to inculcate vocational skills, soft skills and life skills and that skill could only be acquired with proper knowledge and practice over time.

Dr Binod Kumar Samantaray was of the view that education should help develop social, personal, soft and interpersonal skills.

The winner of the debate, Souraja lenka, said, “Skill development is not imparting of information but is an offshoot of academic knowledge.” Prathama Datta and Rajlaxmi Rout were declared the first and second runners-up, respectively. DAV School of Business Management Principal Dr DN Mishra congratulated the students for their active participation and presentation of ideas at the event.
