Top rebel leader Sabyasachi Panda on Friday, during his appearance at a local court, levelled some serious allegations against Maoist mediator Dandapani Mohanty.

It might be mentioned here that Mohanty had acted as a mediator between Maoists and the State Government during the kidnapping of the then Malkangiri Collector R Vineel Krishna in 2011. He alleged that Mohanty had extorted money from people in his name.

Panda, who appeared before a local court here for the hearing of his bail plea, alleged that Mohanty and his son had collected the money and purchased landed property at several places.

The rebel leader also alleged that Dandapani is going outside to convert the black money into white.  He is going outside to exchange the old currency notes he and his family had collected in the past,” alleged Panda, who is now cooling his heels behind bars. However, Mohanty refuting the allegation said, “All the money I have is accountable and the bank accounts are verified. I requested the court as I need to go Bhubaneswar to meet my daughter and to complete some personal work.” Speaking on relation with Panda, he said that neither he had any relation with Panda in the past nor now.

Mohanty, who heads an organisation named Jan Adhikar Manch, was arrested from his residence here on February 8 in 2013 on charges of involvement in extremist activity.
