Dana Majhi’s wife Amangdei (40) was undergoing treatment for TB at the Kalahandi District Headquarters Hospital at Bhawanipatna and was never declared dead by the time she was taken away at around 1 am on August 24. Dana took Amang without taking permission from the doctor concerned and without asking for an ambulance.
This was stated by Health Minister Atanu Sabyasachi NAyak in the State Assembly in response to a question of Congress MlA Dr Prafulla Majhi on Friday.
The Minister said this on the basis of the report of the Kalahandi Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO).
According to the report, Amangdei had come to the DHH at 12 noon on August 23 and was diagnosed disease as COPD with PTB. Due to unavailability of vacant bed, she was given a mattress and a bed sheet on the floor. However, her husband refused to stay and absconded at about 12.30 pm and again came back at 6 pm with the patient. Necessary treatment was given by TB and Chest Specialist Dr SC Sahu. Staff nurse saw the patient till 1 pm in the ward. As stated by the nearby patients and their attendants, Dana Majhi took the patient without notice of anybody as they were asleep.
On August 24 morning, Dr Sahu found the patient absent and mentioned in the bed head ticket “left agaisnt Medical Advice”. The patient was not declared dead and Dana Majhi had never sought for any help or ambulance like dead body carrier from any of the hospital staff in that night.
The Staff Nurse, Rajendra Rana (Contractual Nurse), who was on duty then, was suspended since he didn’t inform either to Emergency Medical Officer or to Ward-in-Charge Doctor. Similarly, the Security Agency was terminated for neither informing the incident nor watching the premises properly.
