Dana Majhi, who had carried his wife’s body on his shoulders for around 12 km after being allegedly denied an ambulance at the Kalahandi District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), on Thursday received Rs9-lakh assistance donated by Bahrain Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa.

Majhi received the cheque at the Kingdom of Bahrain Embassy in New Delhi.

“I will deposit the amount in the accounts of my three daughters and will spend it for their study,” said Majhi.

Moved by an article on Dana Majhi in the Akhbar Al Khaleej of Bahrain, the Khalifa had announced the donation.

Notably, Dana’s wife Amang died at the Kalahandi DHH at  Bhawanipatna due to tuberculosis on August 23. Dana reportedly sought help from the hospital staff to carry the body to his village, 60 km away from the DHH.

But after the hospital staff reportedly denied an ambulance, Dana walked with the corpse on his shoulders along with his 12-year-old daughter on August 23 night till people spotted him in the early morning on August 24.

Meanwhile, different organisations and people have donated money to Dana while the KISS offered free education to his daughters.
