The ECoR has restored a damaged bridge in 58 daysbetween Borraguhalu and Chimidipalli Railway Station in Kottavalasa-Koraput-Kirandul (KK) rail line.

The bridge no. 249 had been damaged as a huge rock by the side of a waterfall dropped on pier No1 on October 6. The train line is running through a dense forest of the Eastern Ghats mountain.

The impact on the pier was so huge that upper part of the pier from hit portion got sheared, separated and moved towards the valley by 1.6 meters. This had caused mis-alignment of track over the bridge as girders over the pier had also moved along with the pier.

The huge flow in the waterfall at the bridge was diverted to start the construction work. In the difficult terrain with steep rock slopes a path way was constructed to approach the bottom of the pier from the track. Concrete base for crib staging to temporarily support the 100 feet girder on Visakhapatnam end was completed onOctober 16. Crib staging was made ready by October 21 and approach road to the bottom of the pier was made ready by October 24.

Damaged pier was dismantled between October 24 and November 1 and clearance of ground for foundation, anchor rods fixing and concreting leveling course was made between November 2 and 6.

Apart from this, Raft foundation for the pier was made between November 7 and 12 and pier construction in 12 lifts was done between November 13 and 23.

Bed block reinforcement fixing and concreting was done between November 24 and 28.
