Dam on Daya river demanded

The Kalinga Culture and Heritage Suraksha Manch organised a meeting at Samantarapur here on Sunday to discuss about the scarcity of water in river Daya near the locality.

Former Zilla Parishad member Sangram Keshari Paikray presided over the meeting. A decision was taken to submit a request letter to the Chief Minister, who is in charge of the Department of Water Resources, to construct a dam on the river to conserve water in rainy season for use in summer.

It was pointed out that due to the rise in temperatures the river as well as wells and ponds in the locality get dried up during the summer. For this, cultivation of sugarcane and wheat crops is badly affected.

Among others, Basudev Baral, Pramod Swain, Trilochan Das and Bhagwan Das were present at the meeting.
