A Dalit youth, Sukant Das, hailing from Jagannathpur village under Raghunathpur block was severely assaulted by the police on Monday and is now undergoing treatment at the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack.
Protesting the incident, the victim’s wife Malati Das and some other villagers have lodged a complaint to the Jagatsinghpur district Superintendent of Police.Malati has stated that following a land dispute, the Raghunathpur police had picked up her husband from home on Monday for interrogation, but he was later found lying near the Gopalpur School on the outskirts of village sustaining multiple injuries in his chest, eye and face.
Malati alleged that the police brutally assaulted Sukant during interrogation. She demanded a probe into the incident by a senior police official.Responding the complaint, SP SB Bhoi said he is examining the authenticity of the complaint and lawful action would be taken if any police official is found guilty.
