The District Welfare Department on Thursday provided financial assistance to the widow of a Dalit person of Putling village under Garadapur block at the district level legal aid cell review meeting.
District Collector Niranjan Nayak disbursed a cheque of Rs3.75 lakh to Praffulla Mallick. The financial assistance was provided from the SC and ST development fund, said District Welfare Officer Charulata Mallick.
The DWO said Ajay Mallick, Praffulla’s husband, was killed on February 12, 2005 in an attack by some upper caste people.
As a result, in order to provide financial assistance to the deceased Dalit’s next kin, the District Welfare department had conducted an inquiry and later, disbursed Rs 3.75 lakh for her family’s survival.
