Dalit outfits protest police inaction in Jagatsinghpur

Hundreds of activists of five Dalit outfits on Saturday staged a demonstration before the Balikuda police station in Jagatsinghpur district protesting police inaction in arresting the culprits involved in the Brahamanidihi village fire incident.

The activists said two weeks have elapsed since upper caste members of the village torched three Dalit families’ houses, but the culprits are moving freely despite the victim families lodged complaints with the police.

District Dalit Bikash Parishad president Shankar Das said the Dalits had approached senior cops, following which SDPO Manoj Mohanty asked for an investigation into the incident, but till date nothing has happened.

In view of the huge gathering of Dalits, senior cops rushed to the demonstration spot and held discussion with them and assured them the culprits would be arrested in a week’s time.
