Dalit, non-Dalit clash: FIR against 60 persons

A couple of days after a daylong scuffle between dalits and non-dalits in Khariar town on April 10, police have registered an FIR against 60 persons under different Sections of IPC.

“Case has been registered against 60 persons under Sections of IPC including 307 (sessions offence attempting to murder), 323 (causing hurt), 294 (obscene acts), 147,148 (rioting with deadly weapon) and 506 (criminal intimidation),” said Khariar PS IIC Sadanand Pujari. The FIR has already been forwarded to court, he added.

When the tension arising out of the group clash is gradually dying down, the police are planning to call a peace committee meeting among members of the dalit and non-dalit communities. On the other hand, some mischief mongers are trying to spread rumours among the communities to create more tension by saying that plots are going on to attack each other.

The list of FIR includes leaders of both sides.
