The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) has directed the Koraput district Collector to appear in person in New Delhi and appraise it of the action taken by the district administration so far on the alleged forcible acquisition of land belonging to a dalit family by State School and Mass Education Minister Rabi Narayan Nanda.
The NHRC’s directive came during the hearing on a petition filed by a dalit family of Patraput village under the Jeypore sadar police station by NCSC Chairman Pl Punia.
In a letter to the Koraput Collector, NHRC Research Officer AP Goutam has asked him to appear in person before the commission on February 10 to have a detailed discussion and submit documents relating to the piece of land and detailed record of the deal.
A copy of the letter has been forwarded to the petitioner, Hari Pangi, who had staged a dharna in front of the office of the local Sub-Collector against the alleged forcible land acquisition by the family members of the Minister. As the district administration turned a deaf ear to his plea, he later approached the NCSC for redressal of his grievance.
