Daitas pray Goddess Mangala for divine instructions

Daitapatis of the Banajaga team went in a procession to the Maa Mangal temple from the Deuli mutt at 11 am on Friday where they were camping since Thursday. Earlier in the morning at 10.30 am, as per tradition, priests of the Mangala temple came with the agyanmala of Goddess Mangala to the Deuli mutt and invited Daitapatis to the temple for observance of numerous nitees. The Banajaga team began their march to Kakatpur through Konark on March 29 and had reached Deuli mutt in Kaktapur on April 2 covering about 65 km. Deula Karan issued a Chitau (letter) to the priests of the Mangala temple to follow the prescribed rules of Nabakalebar ritual.

As soon as the Daitaptis arrived at the Mangala temple, a special bhog (Majana) was offered to the Goddess. The priests allowed Daitapatis to go into the sanctum sanctorum of the temple to offer prayers. The Daitapatis chanted Swapnabati Mantra to appease the Goddess of dreams to give them divine instructions about the location of four neem trees. Swatriya Brahmins of the Banajaga team recited Saptasati Chandi and Vedic slokas in the temple complex. Daitapatis returned to the Deuli mutt in the evening where they would stay for more than a week till the divine instruction came about the neem trees.

The neem trees should bear the holy symbols like wheel (chakra), mace, lotus and conch. The cutting ceremony will be performed and the trees would be cut to a definite size by the Biswakarmas before a consecration ceremony for each of trees. Four separate mango wood carts would be constructed by Biswakarmas for transport of these darus to the Puri temple. These carts would be pulled by devotees and servitors all along to Puri.  In separate enclosure in the Jagannath temple complex, the Biswakarmas under the instruction of the senior Daitapatis will carve out the shapes of four deities. Thereafter in a midnight secret ceremony, the Brahmas from the old Bigrahas would be transferred to new bodies.
