The Quick Action Team (QAT) of the Commissionerate police on Wednesday night foiled a dacoity bid by arresting five miscreants from the laxmisagar area in the city, police sources said.
The police seized a pistol, a live bullet, two swords, two iron rods, three mobile phones and two bikes from the criminals’ possession. The accused were forwarded to a court here on Thursday.
The arrested miscreants were identified as Anil Kumar Nayak alias Tutu (30), Jitendra Swain alias Jitu (24), Mithun Mohanty (32), all of Aska in Ganjam district, lingaraj Patra alias Kuna (27) of Baunsuni in Boudh and Sarat Chandra Mohanty (38) of the city’s Khandagiri area.
According to laxmisagar police station IIC PC Pal, the QAT nabbed the accused from the Jharpada Melan ground while they were planning to commit a dacoity in the area. Investigation was on to ascertain if any other persons were involved in the gang, he added.
