A team of Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday caught a doctor red-handed and arrested him while accepting a bribe of Rs 11,000 from a person at his clinic in Dhenkanal district.
The doctor Umakanta Khejuria, who works in the Dhenkanal District Headquarters Hospital as Medicine Specialist, had demanded the bribe to countersign the death insurance claim form of a woman policy holder, who was under his treatment.
The woman died recently. Her lone surviving eight-year-old daughter was supposed to get the insurance claim as nominee, for which Khejuria was to countersign the documents.
The bribe money was recovered from Khejuria and seized. A detailed probe into the bribe case is underway.
