The cyclonic storm Mora on Wednesday moved further north-northeastward, owing to which warning signals have been lowered at various ports in the State.

With this, the cyclonic storm weakened into a deep depression.

“The cyclonic storm ‘Mora’ over Bangladesh and adjoining Mizoram and Tripura moved further north- northeastward with a speed of 26 kmph, weakened into a deep depression and lay centred at 1730 hrs IST over Tripura and neighbourhood near latitude 24.2ºN and longitude 92.2ºE, about 80 km southwest of Silchar,” an IMD bulletin said.

The system is very likely to continue to move north-northeastwards and weaken further into a depression during next six hours and into a low pressure area in subsequent six hours, the bulletin said.

However, rain or thundershowers is likely to occur at many places in districts of north Odisha and a few places over south Odisha during next 24 hours, it added.

While a Distant Warning Signal Number Two (DW-II) was hoisted at Paradip and Gopalpur ports following the cyclonic formation, it has been lowered at these ports.

On the other hand, at least six persons were killed in Bangladesh after cyclone Mora wreaked havoc in the country’s south-eastern coast on Tuesday leaving behind a trail of damaged houses and trees. The local Government had evacuated around 3 lakh people from 10 coastal districts.
