Cyclonic circulation in Gulf of Thailand triggers panic

Published on:

While the people of the State are yet to forget the devastating cyclonic storm Phailin which hit the coastal Odisha on October 12 last year at Gopalpur, a report that a cyclonic circulation was developing in Gulf of Thailand with possible impact on Odisha has renewed the fear.

The actual direction of the storm will be ascertained on October 7 or 8, said sources. Meanwhile, the local Meteorological Centre here said there was no need to panic.

“There is no need to panic as the movement of the cyclonic storm has not yet been ascertained,” said Bhubaneswar Met Centre Director Sarat Sahu.

Notably, on October 1 last, the Met Centre had informed the Office of Special Relief Commission (SRC) about the formation of a cyclonic storm in the Gulf of Thailand after it traced the cyclonic area from satellite images. Sahu, however, said that another cyclone in the Bay of Bengal near the Andaman may trigger rain in many parts of the State in next two-three days.
