Cyclone ‘Daye’ weakens into deep depression

Published on:

Cyclone ‘Daye’ weakened into a deep depression on Friday and would further downgrade into a depression, said the Regional Office of the Indian Metrological Department (IMD) here.

The cyclone had hit the coast near Gopalpur on Thursday night between 12.30 am and 1.30 am. Now, it is expected to keep moving on a west-northwestward trajectory, said the IMD.

The deep depression is currently centred near Raipur in Chhattisgarh.

After the cyclone made its landfall in Gopalpur after midnight, heavy rain was reported in the State, especially in Malkangiri district. No casualties were reported so far though Special Relief Commissioner Bishnupada Sethi said that around 150 marooned people were rescued from different areas of Malkangiri district.
