Even as the Government is bracing up for a Covid-19 vaccination programme, cybercriminals have become active in luring people to pay and register for "priority" coronavirus vaccine that would help them get hold of the vaccine before others. Police have warned public to remain alert so that they do not fall prey to these new fraudsters, who aims at siphoning of money from their bank accounts.
In a tweet, the Commissionerate police have appealed to people not to respond to phone calls by asking for such vaccine registration. Sources said that the cybe rfraudsters are calling people on the pretext of registering them for the much-awaited vaccine. “They first ask for various documents including Aadhaar and valid email ID. Later, to authenticate Aadhaar, they ask for OTP from people. When people share the OTP, money is siphoned from Aadhaar linked bank account,” tweeted the Commissionerate police. Bhubaneswar DCP Umashankar Dash cautioned people not to share their personal details with anyone to save themselves from being trapped by such fraudsters.
The enticing offers are being sent to people through malicious links, mail, messages or phone calls. The cops have urged people to think twice before clicking on any such malicious links as there is a risk that they may get duped.
