CWC seeks Govt report on Budhia

At a time when the whereabouts of wonder boy Budhia Singh (14), who ran a record-breaking 65 km from Puri to Bhubaneswar in seven hours and two minutes in 2006 at the age of four and found a place in the limca Book of Records, are yet to be ascertained, the Khordha Child Welfare Committee (CWC) on Thursday sought a report from the State Government within three days.

Budhia was staying at the Government-run Sports Hostel here managed by the Sports and Youth Services Department since he left his now-deceased coach Biranchi Das ten years ago after a controversy.

“It is a very sensitive issue. We have asked the Government to submit a report on the entire episode on the reported missing of Budhia in three days,” said CWC Member Benudhar Senapati. Budhia’s coach at the Sports Hostel Rupanita Das said she would send the notice to the Sports and Youth Services Department for its compliance.

Budhia has not returned to the hostel since the reopening of the sports facility centre after the summer vacation in June, putting the Government in a fix. The Government has been providing education, training and other facilities to the wonder boy free of cost. Meanwhile, sources said Budhia and his mother Sukanti Singh are in Mumbai for promotion of a movie made on the wonder boy.
