Police arrested one Jagat Rout of Cuttack on the charge of kidnapping a Dalit girl from Raghunathpur area in Jagatsinghpur district a month back and also rescued the girl on Wednesday.
The Raghunathpur police had earlier registered a kidnapping case against the youth on the complaint of the girl’s parents. It was alleged that Jagat had kidnapped the girl from Raghunathpur area promising to marry her.
Reports said Jagat had begun maintaining relationship with the girl following a mobile missed call three months back. In early October, the victim absconded from village as a result of which her kin lodged an FIR and sought an investigation.
The police picked up the two when they were returning from Puri on Wednesday. Meanwhile, police have sent both Jagat and the girl for medical examination.
