On the eve of a new Mayor of the city getting elected on Thursday, the incumbent Mayor Soumendra Kumar Ghosh vacated the office after a five-year term.
“Although I will continue to remain a BJD worker, I will stay away from active politics and concentrate on my primary profession as an advocate of the Odisha High Court,” said Ghosh as he vacated the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) office.
Meanwhile, the stage is now set for the city to get its second woman Mayor as the post is reserved for an SC woman. The BJD, having won absolute majority in the council by bagging 36 of the 59 wards, is going to form the council on Thursday. The BJD is sure to get its Mayor uncontested. Reports indicate that BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is likely to announce the name of the candidate on Thursday.
