If everything goes the right way, Cuttack district will make transition from cash to cashless transaction in coming months.
The administration is intent on moving forward towards cashless initiative. A State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) has decided to adopt Cuttack district as 100% digitally-enabled.
As the administration is gearing up to showcase rich maritime history, socio-cultural legacy and rich Odia heritage during the weeklong Baliyatra next month, the cashless mode of transaction is being prioritized by the Government agencies.
Over 1,500 kiosks and stalls which will come at the Baliyatra extravaganza have been asked to make digital payment for the cess towards hiring the stalls. This is intended to promote digitalisation of cash transaction and create digital ecosystem in the district, Cuttack Collector Bhabani Shankar Chayani told.
As recommended by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the SLBC will meet shortly with all stakeholders to chalk out a detailed rollout plan, effort estimation and bank branch wise allocation. The administration will extend all support in the form of cashless transaction for the success of digital mission in a year period, the Collector said.

The specific issues enabling or inhibiting the delivery of services like poor internet connectivity, data packet drops may be consolidated and flagged to the authorities concerned and followed up to its logical conclusion.
The SLBC suggested banking facility (branch, ATM) within 5-km radius, facility of Point of Sale (POS) at each merchant point, facility of cash through POS within 0.5-km areas of high demand like haats. It also called for coverage of schools and colleges under smart pay facility.
