Cuttack serial killer to be nabbed soon: CP

Published on:

Even as panic still prevails in Cuttack after the recent triple murders in the city, police have got some leads about the crime of the serial killer, who would be nabbed very soon. Twin City Commissioner of Police (CP) Satyajit Mohanty claimed this here on Sunday.

“We have some clues; and based on that, a special team led by a senior police official in the Additional DCP rank is probing the matter. We hope we will nab the culprit soon,” said Mohanty.

When asked about the identity of the accused, Mohanty said that the way three poor and destitute persons were killed in Cuttack, the prima facie investigations suggested that these were the acts of a “psychopath”.

“We took opinion from a Professor of the Forensic Medicine Department. According to him, the crime might have been committed by a psychopath. Based on his opinion, the probe is underway to nab the person,” said Mohanty. “We are investigating the matter from all the angles. We hope we will solve the case very soon,” he added.

Police sources said that during investigations it has been ascertained that the accused, a mentally-challenged man, was under treatment at the Psychiatric Department in the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack. Notably, the Commissionerate police intensified their night patrolling along with local residents after three people were killed in 24 hours in same style in Cuttack recently.

The accused targeted vulnerable and homeless persons sleeping on pavements at night. While a youth was found dead near the Taladanda Canal under the Mangalabag police station on July 23 morning, the two others were found murdered with injury marks on their heads under the OMP bridge and near the Ranihat-Medical road, respectively, on July 24.
