Cuttack police reopen old cases to contain crime

After achieving significant success in apprehending noted anti-social elements of the city, the Commissionerate Police have now decided to reopen investigations into several unsolved old cases, which were closed earlier due to various reasons, including ‘no clue’.

In this regard, the police on Friday decided to reopen the sensational 2005 missing case of Baidhar Sahu, a liquor trader of Gandarpur. Although a kidnapping case was registered in this connection at the Chauliaganj police station, the case could not reach its logical conclusion and the police had closed it abruptly failing to get any clue.

“We have now decided to reopen this case after getting appropriate court directions,” informed city DCP Sanjiv Arora, ruling out any direct involvement of arrested mafia Dhalsamant brothers in it as of now. But other police sources informed that the missing Baidhar had business rivalry with the D brothers’ associate Bharat Swain, who was arrested last month.
