Cuttack police axed for undue interest in accident claim case

Intending to get illegal pecuniary benefits by registering a false case, a police inspector of Cuttack district has landed in deep trouble. Former Inspector-in-Charge of Nemala police station Jyotiranjan Gouda has been suspended after it was revealed that he registered a fake accident case and helped the so-called victims of it to procure a forged injury report in order to enable them to get insurance benefits.

Basing on an inquiry report submitted by the Central Range IGP, DGP KB Singh suspended Gouda on Wednesday. The DGP also ordered Cuttack Rural SP to submit draft charges and memo of evidence against the inspector immediately.

According to a release issued by the police headquarters here, one Sanatan Pradhan of Nayagarh had in a report at the Nemal police station in February claimed that a mini truck in which his son Santosh was working as a helper met with an accident within the limits of this police station. His son and two other occupants of the vehicle sustained grievous injuries, the FIR said.

Registering a case, the then IIC Gouda entrusted the case to Sub-Inspector Jayashree Ojha for investigation. Suspecting the injury reports prepared by Salepur PHC doctor RK Nayak in the case, Ojha referred the injured persons to the SCB Medical College Hospital here for a re-examination of their injuries.

When the hospital gave its opinion that the referred patients did not bear any injuries, the role of the police inspector, the doctor, local advocate Saroj Kumar Sahoo and the vehicle owner Purnananda Sahoo came under the shadow of suspicion and the matter was handed over to the IGP to investigate.

Meanwhile, registering another case of criminal conspiracy, forgery and criminal intent against the doctor, the advocate and the vehicle owner, the Salepur SDPO entrusted the case to Human Rights Protection Cell Inspector Arati Mishra to conduct a thorough investigation into it.
