Dreaded criminal Sanjay Kumar Sahu alias Bhajani, who was giving sleepless nights to the Commissionerate police and was on the run for last eight months, was arrested on Monday and forwarded to court on Tuesday.
In a separate incident, the city police also arrested three other members of a dacoit gang near Bidanasi.
City DCP Sanjib Arora told reporters that Bhajani, who was wanted in a kidnap and attempt to murder case, was arrested from a hideout.
Bhajani was the mastermind in kidnapping two works contractors of the city in August last year and firing at them. Police had earlier arrested nine persons in this connection, but Bhajani, who was also wanted in 12 other cases, was absconding.
Similarly, the Markat Nagar (Phase II) police on Monday arrested three dacoits, who along with four others were planning to cause a major offence in the city on the night of March 12.
During a raid, four were arrested, but these three had escaped from the spot.
Basing on inputs gathered from the arrested four, the police apprehended the other three dacoits.
