Cuttack industrial area under 4-ft water

The unabated downpour for the last three days has practically brought life to a standstill in Madhupatana industrial estate area of the city. The road connecting from Khapuria Press Square to Nuapada via Government ITI is now under four feet water.

Many areas including Sriramnagar, Kajidiha, Nuapada, Press Colony and Rajendra Nagar, adjacent to Mangala Temple have become inaccessible due to logging of rainwater. With water gushing into houses and technical educational institutions in these areas, the denizens have demanded for immediate remedial measures to restore normalcy here.

The denizens have blamed the administration and civic authorities for not cleaning the drains before monsoon season. Also, as the industries here have closed their operations, labourers are facing problems in arranging their food and other basic amenities. “We never imagined that post-Phailin could be so tortuous,” said a local.
