Cuttack gangrape: Cops clueless after 36 hrs

More than 36 hours after the shocking incident of loot and rape in Bayalish Mouza on the outskirts of the city, the Commissionerate police are still clueless by Thursday evening about the miscreants of the sensational incident.

“We have raided over a dozen places in and around Cuttack city during this period, but no significant headway has been made to establish the identities of the miscreants,” informed an ACP-rank officer of the city police associated in investigation.

The police, however, said one person is detained and is being grilled in this connection. At least four intruders allegedly raped a married woman after looting her jewellery, cash and a mobile phone in Jhinkiria village under Bayalish Mouza of Cuttack Sadar on Tuesday night. The woman was alone at home with her two minor children.

Police said a family from Khordha district had settled in the village in a rented accommodation for over two years. While the husband, an insurance agent, was attending an ailing relative in a city hospital on Tuesday night, the burglars entered his house after breaking open the main door.

“Brandishing knives at my six-year-old daughter and two-year-old son, the intruders took away my ornaments. Then tying my children in one room, they forcibly took me to a nearby deserted place and raped me one after the other,” the woman has stated in her FIR.
