Vigilance officers on Wednesday caught RW-II, Nuabazaar, Cuttack Executive Engineer and Junior Clerk-cum-Cashier red handed while taking bribe from one Subash Prasad Rath of Banikantha Nagar of Athagarh.Executive Engineer Prankushna Prasad and Cashier Basanta Kumar Kamal were accepting Rs 7,000 from complainant Subash Prasad Rath to release of security deposit in special repair works.
The complainant alleged that he had executed special road work from landeilo to Routraypur in 2012-13 financial year at the cost of Rs 35,00,000 for which he had deposited Rs 1,73,000 as security deposit at the Office of Executive Engineer, RW-II, Nuabazar, Cuttack.
After completion of work in one and half a year he applied for clearance of the security deposit but the Executive Engineer demanded bribe of Rs17,000 (10 per cent) of the deposit, to release the same, said a Press release issued by the Vigilance, Cuttack division.
