Cuttack district Collector Bhabani Shankar Chayani has earned praise from Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for not taking leave despite the demise of his father on Tuesday.
“Deepest condolences to the Cuttack DM, who lost his father this morning. In an act of exemplary public service, Bhabani Chayani continues to work without a single day leave during huge personal tragedy. Odisha salutes his inspirational leadership,” said the CM in his twitter post.
Damodar Chayani (98), also a former administrator, passed away while his Collector-son was leading the fight against COVID-19 in the district. State Government COVID-19 Chief Spokesman Subroto Bagchi also said that Chayani preferred public service even during the family mourning.
The Collector has set a high benchmark of sincerity during the crisis period in the wake of coronavirus outbreak in the State, he added.
Bagchi quoted Chayani as saying “My father used to say that incomplete work is no work.”
“His father’s words were the driving force for Chayani to keep himself engaged in work to complete the task,” said Bagchi.
