Cuttack cops yet to nab murder accused son

Even after a week, the Cuttack Sadar police are yet to apprehend the 26-year-old youth of Kokipada village of Nahalpur panchayat, who along with his mother Kumudini Mohanty had beaten to death his father Fakir Mohanty (62) in their house on April 15.

Although mother Kumudini was immediately arrested on the same day, the youth had escaped from the spot giving a slip to the police. Kumudini was produced in a local court here and was remanded in judicial custody.

“We have stepped up the manhunt and several surveillance measures are on to arrest the accused,” said Cuttack Sadar Inspector of Police Debadutta Kar, adding that several raids have been conducted at different places in the district and outside in this connection.

Fakir was allegedly lynched to death by his wife and son apparently over a quarrel between them on the old-age pension, which Fakir had received on that ill-fated day. Sources said Fakir was thrown out of his house by his wife and son and he was staying in a slum at Bhubaneswar.
