Cuttack cops in a tizzy over rescued K'taka woman

The Cuttack police now find themselves in a tizzy over the Karnataka woman rescued from a paddy field near a train line here three days ago.

The badly-bruised and mentally-unstable woman apparently pushed from a running train is currently undergoing treatment here.

But the police are finding it extremely difficult to establish her identity and get contact with anyone of her relatives.

While the woman has provided some telephone numbers, the respondents on the other side of the phone are either feigning ignorance or not responding to the calls.

With her disjointed statements, the police here believe that the 32-year-old woman is one B Usha Hanumanthapa and is a native of Chikmagalur district of Karnataka. She was apparently in a live-in relationship with one Qasim in Bengaluru and has two little kids, including a girl child.

“We tried to contact the person called Qasim over telephone on the basis of the number given by the woman. But the person, who picked up the call refused to identify the woman and said he does not know anyone by that name,” said ACP Trinath Mishra, who is probing into the matter.

“Even we tried to contact the parents of the woman at Chikmagalur over telephone and they too are unresponsive. Their telephones are found switched off for last 24 hours,” Mishra said adding that the Karnataka police have been informed about the incident seeking cooperation.
