The city police on Monday court-forwarded 14 arrested inter-State dacoits, who were involved in a National Highway robbery last month. The criminals were remanded in jail custody.
DCP Sanjiv Arora said at least nine of them had waylaid a steel rod-laden lorry near the Birupa Bridge on NH-5 under the Jagatpur police station here on the night of August 26.
Police said the dacoits had disposed of the booty with at least five receivers, who were also arrested on charges of receiving stolen properties.
Police seized from the 14 arrested persons the stolen lorry, 26 MT of steel rods, a car, a motorcycle and 18 mobile phones. The arrests were made following a complaint by one Ajit Singh, manager of the Angul branch of the private company, whose truck had been stolen.
