Cuttack AAP candidate cries foul of cop harassment

Published on:

Aam Admi Party (AAP) candidate Bikash Das contesting from the Cuttack lok Sabha constituency has complained of police harassment during the run-up to the April 17 elections.

Das in a petition to the District Returning Officer-cum-Collector has alleged that a local police inspector in the Badamba Assembly segment harassed him and his party workers and detained them for over two hours during the campaigning on Sunday evening.

The complaint to the RO said that the Inspector-in-Charge of Kanpur police station prevented the AAP candidate and his supporters from campaigning saying that they did not have the requisite permission to campaign in the area at that point of time.

Das has contested the police officer’s action and said that the police inspector did not make correct application of his mind to the provisions laid down by the Election Commission of India for the candidates. Das said the “overzealous” cop is legally liable for flouting the contents of the permission letter issued by the ECI to the candidates.
